Annual General Meeting 2011

CANB's Annual General Meeting and workshop will be held at the Provincial Archives in Fredericton on Friday, May 13 at 9:00 AM.  Please let me know by May 6 if you plan to attend!

The Council of Archives New Brunswick does not have a viable mechanism by which to transfer archival descriptions to the Archives Canada database.  In addition, unlike all other provinces/territories and Councils in the country, we do not have the descriptions on a site dedicated to just New Brunswick institutions.  Similarly, many institutions do not have an effective means to manage their institutional descriptions for in-house or external users.  The Executive has long been aware of these related shortcomings and has been exploring options to rectify the situation.  Join us for a demonstration of one proposed solution to these issues, ICA-AtoM, as used by the Archives Association of BC, and a discussion of how to address this important aspect of how archives provide access to the public.  The feasibility, challenges, and opportunities associated with such an endeavour should prove both interesting and lively.  Much is happening in other jurisdictions regarding the feeder systems to Archives Canada and these developments will also be outlined for attendees.  Come learn about what is happening in this aspect of archives in Canada and contribute to deciding how CANB can best forge a path for the future.
